Mexico City Graphic Identity

Building the visual identity of a city is a demanding and challenging task, especially in a city with a long cultural and historical heritage, such as Mexico City, which has diverse traditions. To address this complexity, a highly flexible visual system that allows for further growth was proposed. This system should be adaptable to a wide range of applications, from signage to official documents, and include various representations of the city.

The proposed graphic identity includes elements from the native cultures that inhabited the city, as well as urban symbols from different historical periods. A key element of the proposed main mark for the city is the nopal, a native plant that also appears as a central element in historical references to the city, such as the Codex Mendoza. Additionally, special attention to the functionality of the visual system is a crucial aspect of the project’s overall direction.
